The following PSA is a well-made, design-minded (USGS + Art Center), emergency preparedness message for Los Angeles that's uncheesy and very scary.
Citing a projected death toll, fire count, building collapse rate, etc., the video lays out, "physical, social, and economic consequences," of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake at the San Andreas fault. Based on historic geological trends, we're about 150 years overdue.
Like a Boy Scout at a laser show, it is essential to BE PREPARED. You. Must. Watch. This. Video.

In response to Saturday's 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Chile, Google set up a Crisis Response hub of news links, essential resources, video, photos, donation portals and an interactive 'Person Finder' application in English and Spanish. Also, here's the number for the US State Department: 1-888-407-4747.
The Chile quake, believed to be 1000 times more powerful than the January 12th Haiti earthquake (but occurring much deeper -- 22 miles below the surface vs. eight miles below in Haiti) triggered tsunami activity throughout the Pacific prompting evacuations in Hawaii and other coastal islands and areas. Damage was reported from Samoa to Ventura County.
