Manifest Equality has launched a high profile, pop-up art gallery near Hollywood and Vine for a five day exhibition set to run through Oscar week 2010.
The massive showing -- staged in the former Big Lots megastore -- is intent on raising visibility for equal rights through artwork that reflects the organization's commitment to, "equality, justice, respect, unity, civil rights and love."
The idea for the show was conceived in part by powerhouse organizer, motivator, advocate, and Echo Park dweller, Yosi Sergant, who previously produced Manifest Hope shows in support of Barack Obama's campaign. Sergant is back in Los Angeles after resgining as Director of Communications for the National Endowment for the Arts following an unfounded and politically-motivated witch hunt led by a sack of shit named Glenn Beck.
Strongly-sponsored, widely-supported and community-fueled, MANIFESTEQUALITY is estimating 10,000+ visitors and hopes to be a call-to-action with "artists motivating public energy toward true reform on a local, state and national level" for issues surrounding the California Prop 8 ban on gay marriage.
Artists Barry McGee, Harvey Pekar, Karen Kimmel, Robbie Conal, Ron English, Tierney Gearon, Shepard Fairey, Clare Rojas, Gary Baseman, Swoon and hundreds of others will have their work on display. There will also be live music performances and DJ sets by Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse, Sam Sparrow, Crystal Method, Daisy O'Dell, Adam 12 and Justin Warfield from She Wants Revenge, Boom Bip, Mia Moretti, Justin Allen, DJ AC, Dan Mancini, Rare Matthew, and more.
Check out the official MANIFESTEQUALITY website for a full schedule of events, exhibit hours, and location. Show runs from March 3, 2010 - March 7, 2010.
