Gallery of Functional Art

The art of daily life

Less a pantheon to art gods than a home-décor outpost specializing in the quirky and hand-made, the Gallery of Functional Art is a place to marvel at form following function.

Sharing space with the Lois Lambert Gallery, the GFA revels in the bric-a-brac of the everyday. The home furnishing wares in every nook and cranny are small feats of ingenuity: rolls of tickets are transformed into usable bowls and discarded corkscrews become the building blocks for comfy armchairs. Bohemian westsiders will find a lifetime’s worth of precious rock-and-silver jewelry and jetsetters of all stripes will want to stand still to gaze at the Pucci-style glass-blown confections. Patrons can even extend their delight into custom-made piece by functional artists of their choosing. But if a particular piece in stock strikes your fancy, it is best to purchase on the spot, as the showroom’s inventory rotates regularly. —Melissa Lo
