Hunsaker/Schlesinger Fine Art

Eye candy that cleanses the palette

At this Bergamot gallery, tasteful eclecticism can be found in familiar forms.

From easily digestible abstraction to finely crafted figuration, paintings are the favored at Hunsaker/Schlesinger. Taking advantage of its limited space, the gallery cunningly shows work in the main exhibition space as well as on its office walls; the friendly staff gives patrons plenty of room to look around. A recent show featured two new Otis graduates, Michael Brunswick and Kathrin Burmester. Brunswick’s paintings (large, atmospheric canvases reminiscent of marbled paper) were in the main space and Burmester’s photographs—cut-outs of everyday people pasted onto non-descript gray backgrounds—took over the office. A summertime group show exhibited carefully wrought landscapes, searing portraits and arresting sketches using a panoply of charcoal, pencil and ink. —Melissa Lo
