Where else but Los Angeles would there be a museum dedicated to the car? Okay, maybe Detroit, but LA is much sexier.

The Petersen Automotive Museum came into existence in the early '90s when Robert and Margie Petersen donated $5 million to create a museum dedicated to the automobile. The Petersens would later add about $25 million to their initial donation, making them some of the biggest museum donors in American history. The four-story museum is a fuel-injected trip down memory lane, motoring through California's early Model-T history, the flash of '50s tailfins and the snarl of modern-day freeway traffic. Besides its permanent collection, the museum hosts changing exhibitions dedicated to celebrity rides, classic cars, racing, motorcycles and automotive technology and design. The third floor houses the May Family Discovery Center, which encourages kids to study science through car technology.—hey, if thats what it takes it get kids interested in science were all for it. The fourth floor, which houses the all-glass Connor Pavilion is a sought-after location for private parties and museum functions—Notorious B.I.G was gunned down after leaving a Vibe magazine party at the museum in 1997.
