All things 'sel' at Saltistry
Normally, we get our salt quota from the most natural source available to us in LA: beer.
Now, if you put Heirloom Tomato Salt around the rim of your long neck, Tijuana-style, the folks at Saltistry would probably cut you. And, yes, they'd probably rub one of their nine sea salts in the wound, too.
Instead of wasting their precious reserves, the artistes are hosting a salt tasting on Monday night to educate us in things sel (check out that cool salt scooper).
And the cocktails are alive and kicking as well: part of your entry covers a sampling of the exotic, salted 'tinis. But, kick in $5 for a full-on Margarita with lime-flake salt or a six-pepper Bloody Mary.
Sure, everybody has some truffle salt laying around, but have you ever paired it with roasted pee wee potatoes? Oh, really!
Well, how about a saltini (entailing vodka, baby tomatoes and some Six Pepper Salt)? Didn't think so...
For $25 (at the door; no reservations) you can catch a culinary wave that is -- if not 'new' -- certainly a well-founded, well-funded one.
Caramel and salt?! Come on... (at right).
Deets:
Monday, March 31 from 6pm-9pm; at Food Court LA (8334 W 3rd St., Mid-WIlshire, 323.782.9689).
It's All-inclusive, $25 at the door and all the salt you need to pickle your innards.
