Saturday Night Partying At Coachella
![]() (Photo courtesy of Getty Images) I had to forego the entire Coachella Festival due to familial wedding duties back here in LA, so I knew I would have to make it out to at least some of the after-parties to pacify my devastation. On the ride up to Indio on Saturday night, I was comforted by the fact that I was able to avoid the ridiculous heat and the hordes of sweaty hipsters at the shows. This made me feel better until I got to the T-Mobile Sidekick after-party and every other person was gushing about how Prince, the headliner that night, was ah-maaaaz-ing . Dammit. The party, located at an Indio airport hangar, was an LA bash transplanted in the desert. Paris Hilton was there with beau, Benji Madden. Steve Aoki was jumping on and off his turntables, DJ AM, Mom Jeans (Danny Masterson) and Aoki took turns on the turntables. A hoodie and cowboy boot-clad Jamie Lynn Sigler danced with a hoodie-clad doppleganger until stumbling out around 2:30am. We spotted uber-affectionate and newly engaged Carmen Electra and fiance Rob Patterson whispering sweet nothings to each other by the bar. A fun and typical LA night - instead of being in an uber-swanky Hollywood club, the socialites and Hollywood scenesters were dancing and drinking in an airport hangar surrounded by Cessnas. At least all the free-ness at the T-Mobile party made the trip worth it. Free booze, free tacos, free karaoke, and free make-overs by Too-Faced cosmetics kept us entertained until about 3am, when we headed to the Green Door party at The Colony Palms Hotel. By the time we got to the Green Door party, we spied the DJ (Sean Patrick?) walking out. At 4am, there were only a few people passed out and/or lounging poolside, so we decided to make the trek back to LA, so I could be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for my cousin's noon wedding on Sunday. Trekking to the desert just for the parties was probably not such a good idea. Hearing people rave about Portishead and Prince made me too jealous for words. It was hearing, "And then he brought out Sheila E!" that made me lose it. I get it, Coachella. The weekend is about the music and not the all-night ragers. Lesson learned. Coachella 2009, watch out.
