The First Time Ever I Saw American Idol

Dear Mr. Seacrest:

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Tuesday night in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But, we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But, what we found out is that each one of us is a student, an actress, a bartender, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,
The AI Club

The Final Three were dressed for success last night as shark-jawed Ryan Seacrest introduced the Davids and Syesha (by the above descriptors), to an adoring world.

This week was a 3x3 exercise wherein each of the finalists had to sing three selections; one chosen by the judges, one chosen by the producers, and one they decided for themselves.

After a long week of Dad-bashing, Archuleta Jr. went it alone and tried to be a normal kid.  Simon said he danced awkwardly and was like a “chihuahua trying to be a tiger.”  Mission accomplished.  You are now a normal kid.

Syesha delivered vocally throughout the entire evening and looked absolutely beautiful in a sparklie gown.  Unfortunately her name isn’t David and that means she is the weakest link.  Goodbye.

Mr. Roberta Flack Cook served up a double shot of smirky hot rock that makes you regret everything you do while under its spell.  But someone needs to tell him to stop singing Our Lady Peace and Switchfoot.  Regardless of how you feel about the bands, it’s clear that these tunes are either wrong for him stylistically, or he feels weird about making them awesomer.

These nine performances will determine the last two standing (which is to say, prepare yourself for the most explicit David-on-David action this state has ever seen!):

David Archuleta
Paula’s Pick - And So It Goes by Billy Joel
Kids Choice - With You by Chris Brown
Producer Round - Longer by Dan Fogelberg

Syesha Mercado
Randy’s Pick - If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys
Kids Choice - Fever by Peggy Lee
Producer Round - Hit Me Up by Gia Farrell

David Cook
Simon’s Pick - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack
Kids Choice - Dare You To Move by Switchfoot
Producer Round - I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith
