When you write about food, there's no reason to know about music. Case in point: S. Irene Virbilia's fair praise for the new
Opus Bar & Grill in today's
Los Angeles Times opens with "The line snakes around the corner, concertgoers inching their way toward the entrance of the Wiltern LG at Wilshire and Western to hear the L.A. punk group Widespread Panic."
Although we're not fans of
Widespread Panic ourselves, we can't help but clarify that the group is not an LA-based band nor anything close to punk. They are a Southern jam band. As a friend said, "Whenever I think Widespread Panic, I always imagine
bloated, hairy Deadheads." Indeed.
At least Irene was
right about the restaurant: It is quite good.
