Before everyone was going crazy for Lily Allen's reggae, ska, and hip-hop-inspired pop, UK rapper-singer M.I.A (whose real name is Maya Arulpragasam), was getting people on the dance floor with her exotic mix of hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, electronica and funk. (Back in 2005 the high-energy single "Galang" was all over the nightlife scene, getting clubbers sweaty from Miami to Tokyo.)  But Ms. Arulpragasam has hardly been missing in action: She joined Gwen Stefani on her Harajuku Lovers tour, and recorded a new album (Kula), and now she's making her way back to LA for two intimate shows at the Echoplex on July 30 and 31. Judging from the highly addictive nature of her new single "Boyz," it might be wise to get tickets sooner than later.
