LA GLOWs HARD
![]() Living in a city like LA, everyone gets that urge every so often (or all the time) to go crazy and party until the break of dawn. Then, that darn 2 am alcohol cut-off closes all venues, and abbreviates the night's fun. Sure, afterhours parties suffice sometimes, but wouldn't it be great to party 'til sunrise in a place other than a dirty warehouse in downtown? This weekend is blessed with not 1, but 2, certifiably rad party-til-breakfast options... ON THE WESTSIDE:
![]() Party from dusk 'till dawn...literally. From 7pm-7am, this FREE fete at the Santa Monica Pier will exhibit the work of over a dozen artists with interactive exhibitions that include video installations, music, DJ's, and a ferris wheel. The LA Commons will present the opening and closing performances. At dusk, SHINE, an all female drumming and dance group will kick-off the arts and music festival with a performance at the entrance of the pier. At dawn, Viver Brasil, a dance group will lead a procession that celebrates the life and power of the ocean. A few of the fine offerings c/o KCRW, City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Arts Foundation... Machine Project Pirate Lullabies A huge fake bonfire and light installation? Beach blankets? People singing sea shanties? Meet us there at 3am-ish for a nap. Jeff Cain Skyglow Located inside the old Robinson's department store on 2nd St. and Broadway and will boast a video installation projecting images of the Los Angeles landscape on the ceiling. The floors will be padded so that patrons can get lie down and watch the images on their backs...or where those too-trashed-for-words can go for a quickie nap. Usman Haque Primal Source An interactive exhibition on the Santa Monica beach where the audience interacts and creates the actual art, and become the art itself. Perfect for kids or kids at heart. infranatural The Amazing Mental Scope An EEG monitor (a machine that measures electrical activity caused by the brain) will be hooked up to one (soooooooooooooooo) lucky ferris wheel rider at a time. Their brain waves will be broadcast on a huge LED display for all of Santa Monica to see. "Honey, I can see your brain waves from here?" Peter Tolkin Projects Dunnage Ball A ball, 22 ft. in diameter, made of 30 dunnage bags will be illuminated and beachgoers will be able to enter and sit and watch the ocean. ON THE EASTSIDE:
![]() If you thought the HARD New Year's Eve festival was crazy...look at that line-up. With N*E*R*D and MSTRKRFT headlining, the typical hipster would think that the rest of the acts would be just filler...not at HARD. The Shrine will be THE hipster haven for the night. Joining Pharrell & Co. and the masked mixologists will be a collection of equally talented artists and DJ faves including Steve Aoki (of course), Spank Rock, Kid Sister & A-trak (the package deal), Squeak E. Clean (aka Spike Jonze's brother), and Mom Jeans (you know, Hyde from That 70's show). Okay, you've got the stellar line-up. Now add a skate park, food, a full bar, and more hipster blog photogs than you can possibly imagine. Oh and did we mention that the party ends at 4am? Go HARD until 4am and you'll still have time to make it to GLOW in Santa Monica until 7am. Wethinks the city of angels will spend Sunday sleeping off hangovers. It is the day of rest, right?
