Nylon Celebrates 90210 (2.0) At The Roosevelt
![]() 90210 covergirls Shenae Grimes (left) and Annalynne McCord NYLON Magazine's TV issue features the newest generation of 90210's finest: Shenae Grimes, Annalynne McCord, and Jessica Stroup. And NYLON celebrates the issue launch just like a rich girl from that coveted area code would...with a party at The Roosevelt's ultra-exclusive Tropicana Bar. Effen Vodka cocktails and red and white wine flowed for free explaining the constant massive crowds at the bar all night. Annalynn McCord and Perez Hilton Both Hiltons were there - Paris and Perez. Perez's all-print outfit read sensory overload. Too bad he hid his new fabulous svelte figure. Paris and her blondtourage arrived after hitting up the Mondrian Hotel re-launch. The heiress settled in a both by Perez as scenesters milled around her table pretending not to star-gawk. The bachelors were out last night - Simon Rex busted out his Dirt Nasty persona while whispering sweet nothings into the ear of a pretty brunette as The Real World's Mike "The Miz" was spitting game to an asian girl standing by the Hiltons. And we spied a mohawk-ed Shane West having a girl order a Vodka Soda for him at the bar as DJ/Spike Jonze brother, Squeak E. Clean played Khia's "My Neck, My Back." This new crop of high school elitists is already partying with the Hiltons - looks like they're not going to have any trouble fitting into this scene. Watch 90210 Tuesdays at 8pm on the CW. ![]() 90210-ers Ryan Eggold and Jessica Stroup ![]() Paris Hilton, duh

Loudon Wainwright III @ Largo, 9/3/08
![]() Loudon Wainwright III is obsessed with Stacey Keach. Amazingly, this is the least After being teased about his mid-set wardrobe change (reappearing in a flowy, rayon-blend Hawaiian number), Mr. III went on to mention Keach’s name approximately three more times. It is this type of spontaneous and nonchalant quirkiness that separates the good from the great, the idiosyncratic from the neatly packaged, the truly gifted from the pale and plentiful impressionists. How can a song timidly tapped out on a piano that starts with the unassumingly lyric, “Here’s another song in C,” reduce an audience to tears by the two minute mark because, as it turns out, it’s actually a song about broken families and the pain of loss and the great unknown? Because Loudon Wainwright is a motherfu*&ing genius. That’s how. LWIII and his band of merry minstrels (some local, some legendary, some family, some barely legal) wowed the crowd with a sonically diverse platter of deep catalog selects, b-sides, jazz sax-tastical interpretations, a reclaiming of Man Who Couldn’t Cry as covered by Johnny Cash, and the world premiere of a brand new ukulele ballad. While “In C,”-- which never released on record, iTunes, or elsewhere it seems -- was the show’s defining moment, the focus of 23-song set was material off the newly released, Joe Henry produced album Recovery (Yep Rock), featuring reimagined pieces from Wainwright’s 70s arsenal. Among the adoring attendees at the new Also making appearances were daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche (the sweet-toned spawn of LWIII and half sibling of Martha Wainwright and Rufus Wainwright) with a gorgeous and moving original, “Snare Drum,” Joe Henry’s son Levon on tenor sax, and the legendary composer Van Dyke Parks on piano and accordion. Celebs Break Faces At The Avalon
With EA's new boxing video game, Facebreaker, players are able to upload a photo so that their avatar has a unique physical likeness to themselves. Available on XBOX 360, Playstation, and Wii consoles, gamers can battle real friends in the virtual world. To celebrate the launch of the new game, celebs gathered to break some faces at Avalon. Celeb fights for the night included "The Hills" Heidi Montag vs. Spencer Pratt, Omarosa vs. Verne Troyer, and Kim Kardashian vs. Perez Hilton. Montag beat her Geico caveman-looking beau in less than two rounds. Partygoers said that reality mega-bitch Omarosa had no chance against Mini-Me Verne Troyer who said that "having small hands was definitely an advantage." (At least they're good for something.) We really wanted to see Kim Kardashian beat down hater-of-the-year Perez Hilton, but the new svelte Perez was victorious. We spied him gloating in the Kardashian booth later on at The Kress. Before ending the night at the 944 VMA pre-party at The Kress, celebs showed up for the throw-downs at Avalon. Stars like Kim Kardashian, Lance Bass, Chris Evans and Joe Francis all showed face at The Avalon before heading to The Kress rooftop. Click here or on photo above for complete photo gallery.

944 Turns 2 Just In Time For the VMA's
![]() Whoever said you can't see stars in LA has never been on The Kress rooftop. Last night the stars all aligned on the red carpet for 944LA's 2 year anniversary party/944's VMA kick-off party. ![]() The Game performing on the 3rd floor lounge R&B crooner and 944 coverboy Ne-Yo was originally slated to perform on the 3rd floor lounge, but instead the crowd was treated to a performance by The Game with DJ Vice as his mixologist for the night. ![]() Kim Kardashian and her 2nd best assets Hosted by The Kardashians, the entire Kardashian/Jenner clan lounged in their VIP cabana on the rooftop while filming for their reality show "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." The entire clan sans Kim Kardashian arrived promptly at 9pm when doors opened. Kim arrived later after attending the Facebreaker video game launch at The Avalon. Ladies got their nails did on the first floor at the OPI's manicure lounge before heading up to the open bars (yes, open bars!) on the upper floors. And we spied Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx copping shoes at the Creative Recreation shoe-bar before posing for photos with fans. The rooftop full of celebs and celeb-loving groupies in tiered jersey dresses and platinum blond hair was mellow until DJ AM got on the turntables dropping a Biggie and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony-heavy set that got the stiff crowd finally moving. Lance Bass and Joe Francis exited the VIP elevator together as Joe Francis was nervously sniffing and rubbing his nose. They settled into their VIP cabana next to DJ AM's where Bass spent the night texting before leaving hand-in-hand with self-proclaimed D-lister Kathy Griffin. The Kress cocktail waitresses clad in Bombay Sapphire colored American Apparel bandeau dresses were hovering around the Kardashian table hoping to get on camera as they passed out Bombay Sapphire mints. A tipsy DJ/pizza heiress Caroline D'amore admired the live graffiti piece by JoeX2 next to the rooftop's bar. VIP's also received a JoeX2 designed Jansport giftbag that included Smashbox makeup, Britney Spear's Believe scent, and OPI nail polish. ![]() Asia's Perez Hilton stopped by the Kardashian booth after his virtual boxing match vs. Kim at the Facebreaker launch at The Avalon. Tila Tequila and girlfriend Courtenay Semel could not keep their hands off each other all night. Before we left and ended our night at a taco stand like the good little Angelenas we are, we spied Chris Evans hugging it out with DJ/Jamie Pressly's babydaddy Eric Kubiche. Cheers to 944 and another night star-gazing on The Kress' rooftop! (Photos courtesy of 944.com)

"SWAG on Beverly" Block Party September 4
![]() Nothing draws a crowd like the promise of free stuff. So imagine the droves who'll be swarming Beverly Boulevard Thursday night for "Swag on Beverly" believing their wildest dreams have come true. Unfortunately for them in this case SWAG is an acronym standing for "shopping, walking and giving." Participating businesses like Boutique M, Kevan Hall Designs, Scent Bar, Recess and loads more will be donating 10 percent of the evening's profits to the Saban Clinic (formerly the known as the L.A. Free Clinic). But all is not lost for the mooches, free booze and bites will be provided by UV Vodka, Pane e Vino, JIAN BBQ, Mandarette Chinese Café, and IN SEOUL. Thurs., 6-9PM. On Beverly Blvd., between La Cienega and Crescent Heights. www.swagonbeverly.com

VMA Invasion
MTV's annual Video Music Awards will air this Sunday, September 7th at 9pm. Yes, MTV still plays videos. As if the city wasn't already filled with too many inflated egos, here comes Kanye West. The VMA's will be worth watching just to see what the Best Hip Hop Video nominee will bitch about this year.
Forget about the show, forget about the career-making or breaking performances, let's talk about the parties. Yeah, we've got our priorities straight. Our favorite part of the VMA LA invasion is the slew of parties with top-shelf talent that will be keeping us ![]() The Kress will host 944 Magazine's VMA Bash tonight with a performance from Ne-Yo. Expect the girls from MTV's "The Hills" to be lounging on megaclub's rooftop, hopefully somewhere On Thursday, MTV's Latino audience will be treated to a fete at Hollywood & Highland's Level 3. Hosted by MTV Tr3s VJ L Boogs, Colby O'Donis will be performing hits from his new Akon produced album along with Calle 13. Friday night is the official Official VMA weekend jump-off party. Hosted by Mr. Janet Jackson himself, Jermaine Dupri, TAG Records presents a sure-to-be celeb-saturated soiree at the Avalon. Performances by Q and the fabulous Fabolous will entertain 'til 2 in the morning. Okay, now party people are going to have a serious dilemma on Saturday night. Panic At The Disco and the Plain White T's will take the stage at Sunset Blvd.'s House of Blues for Rock Band 2's LIFEbeat benefit. LIFEbeat is an organization that uses the talents of major musical talent to raise awareness about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. So for those more into partying for a purpose, get into a partying panic at HOB on Saturday. Also on Saturday, The Roxy will be getting rocked by DJ AM and T-Pain for the Rhapsody Rocks the VMA's party. The award show partying powerhouse House of Hype (pictured bottom right) also opens on Saturday with a celebrity BBQ. Open to celebs and local tastemakers (read: the most fabulous of the fabulous), the House of Hype will provide a gorgeous venue for lounging and partying on Saturday and Sunday nights. All the Hype festivities are sponsored by Sandisk, Arby's, Coffee Bean, and Famous Stars and Straps. Hopefully, we can expect some mini roast beef sandwiches poolside (don't hate us for loving Arby's). No word on who the special surprise performers are, but we're promised that they will be BIG! ![]() And finally, the Official VMA's after-party will be held on the Paramount backlot. We're expecting industry suits, too-fab nominees and presenters and media to be milling around the fake streets of Paramount schmoozing as their business cards burn holes in their pockets. Hopefully Kanye will make our night and show up to complain about whatever losses he suffers that night. (Fingers and toes are crossed) We're just hoping we can make it through VMA week without a Britney incident. Stay tuned for Music Editor Lisa Brenner's live blogging from the show! VMA photo gallery madness also to come...

Elton John Will Snort Your Life Down
I'm convinced. Everything is better in England.
It was a war of generations last night at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London, and it all came down to who parties harder: Rocket Man or Lambchop (Lambchop is an affectionate nickname for wild child musician Lily Allen, who also hosts a TV show on the BBC called 'Lily Allen and Friends.' And if you don't know who Rocket Man is, go jump in a lake. That's right, I said it). Sir Elton John and sweet Lily took the podium with the intentions of handing out some awards. Instead, Allen proceeded to wolf down copious amounts of champagne and drop f-bombs like it was her job, reports The Daily Mail. When Elton teased her about her drinking, Lily retorted with "F*** off, Elton. I am 40 years younger than you and have my whole life ahead of me!" But that's not even the shocking part. Sir Elton, apparently afraid of being upstaged by the habits of the new Miss Thang shot back with: "I could still snort you under the table!" Unfortunately, it did not come down to a snorting battle, but dude, I would have paid good money just to see this go down. Needless to say, the most memorable portion of the evening during the GQ Men of the Year Awards was a lippy drunk chick. Go figure.

F-Yeah We Were At The Festival!
![]() ![]() ![]() There may not have been funnel cake, but reports are still trickling in of hipsters roasting corn on the sidewalk. On the sidewalk, people, on the sidewalk! Nothing says neighborhood gentrification like the ousting of proper street vendors. F-Yeah Fest, co-brainchild of the recently roughed up Sean Carlson, was bigger and badder in it's 5th year, once again reaching the young vote (as evidenced by short bar lines and moshing). The enthusiastic know that this year's mid level bands will be next year's headliners, and we can all take solace in the fact that music that sounds like a cat screaming in Japanese will always be as welcomed as music that sounds like a toddler doing 50s rock n' roll. And because the universe is wonderous, we can all relive the magic of Mika Miko and Crystal Antlers at the Eagle Rock Music Festival in just a few short weeks. Labor Day Partying Is Hard Work
![]() It was a "That 70's Show" reunion at The Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar on Labor Day. Pretty partiers lying poolside enjoyed the sounds of DJ MOMJEANS AKA Danny Masterson AKA Hyde. Wilmer Valderrama who played "Fez" on the show, strolled in late in the afternoon with an entourage of huge bodyguards. Myles Hendrik (Teddy's) opened up the party with a low-tempo set perfect for lounging poolside on a Monday. In between Hendrik and MOMJEANS were Chris Holmes and new local DJ's Xtron and the Models and Bottles crew, featuring actor Clark Duke. ![]() Promoters David & David ensured a tight door where only the cutest of the cute were allowed into the party, natch. Modelizers in chaise lounges watched blonds in barely-there bikinis play pool games while attention whores did canonballs into the pool. After the sun went down, parties continued to Get Bent at The Bar for Sean Patrick's Monday night weekly where DJ Adam 12 (She Wants Revenge) punctuated our Labor Day in style...with some 90's hip-hop. For those 90's revivalists, Adam 12 has a new Thursday night dedicated to 90's hip-hop in the works at Temporary Spaces. We'll keep you posted on our sure-to-be new favorite night of the week.
