As we near the end of the Mayan calendar and 2012 approaches like a bat-signal license to get bat shit crazy, it makes sense that a coordinated effort to revive rock's eden of debauchery is well underway.  Exhibit A, the 2nd Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) which kicks off tonight with a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.

The dark lord of reality TV will be honored by friends and musicians during a celeb studded concert at the House of Blues as a prelude to the festival's closing performance -- a highly anticipated, full set of Ozzy.

For the glam runaways living incognito since the death of hair metal, for the heavies who saw their strip taken over by eyeliner, for the hippies who jangled with love and then peaced out, and for all of rock's refugees left exiled from Herpes heaven, the Sunset Strip is calling you home.  It's a return to rock n' roll values, back to the concrete mainline of fame and excess and lots of other things that will kill you. The time has come. Today. Leave the Aqua Net, take the Strip.

But LA.com, how can so much reckless hedonism fit into such a small piece of landscape?  Like anyone who's ever had a good wax can tell you, sometimes a strip is more than enough.

The festival runs through Saturday and has a line up of 40+ bands spread over outdoor stages, and inside participating venues (Cat Club, Key Club, Roxy Theatre, House of Blues, Viper Room, Whisky a Go Go). Street closure is between Doheny Drive and San Vicente from 2-9 PM on Saturday.

A variety of ticket options exist for your leathered pleasure.  There are 2 day passes, 3 day passes, single show admissions, VIP something somethings and all configurations of such.

Check out the official site for a full breakdown.  I mean that in every way possible.
