An impressive line up of musicians including Band Of Horses, Shirley Manson, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Sea Wolf will take to the Avalon in Hollywood on Saturday night for a semi-acoustic concert benefit in support of the The Pablove Foundation.
Created by Dangerbird Records founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill when their 5 year old son Pablo was diagnosed with cancer last year, the charity, which spreads the message that children get cancer too, is dedicated to child-life programs in addition to children's cancer research and the goal of increasing joy and compassion for families during cancer treatment.
Fresh off a 30-day, 3100-mile bike ride titled "Pablove Across America", Jeff Castelaz (together with his friend/coach Rick Babington) embarked upon an ambitious expedition across the United States in honor of his son who sadly died earlier this year at age 6.
Armed with the goal of raising $1 million in funds to improve pediatric cancer treatment and to spread awareness of the disease, Jeff, who was joined by cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, stopped in at children's hospitals to connect with cancer stricken children.
His own son was treated at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a nonprofit hospital and international leader in state of the art medical care for children. Each year, 93,000 children from across the world are treated at CHLA. Pablove will be announcing its support of national programs next year.
One Pablove supporter, Sea Wolf singer/songwriter Alex Brown Church is looking forward to playing the event, doing his part to help spread awareness. "Cancer is something that affects us all. Nothing is more senseless and cruel than cancer in a child. Our children are our future and the loss of a child not only takes away the future of the child, but ours as well. It's tragic and awful and Pablove is intended to help."
