Last night (12/9/09) began at the Mann Village in Westwood where "Chicago" director Rob Marshall's premiered his latest musical "Nine" -- a big screen adaptation of the vaunted Broadway show featuring the tormented life of an Italian film director and his many women.
Of the film's seven starlets, only three showed up for the screening. As it turns out, three is more than enough to cause a frenzy in the street -- really, even in Hollywood, how often do you see Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, and Fergie in one place?
As an added bonus Fergie brought hubby Josh Duhamel and fellow Black Eyed Peas band member Taboo, while Nicole left Keith at home and Penelope was sans Javier Bardem, her latest celebrity boytoy.
The film's leading man, Daniel Day Lewis, was nowhere to be seen, and the rest of the women -- Kate Hudson, Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, and Sophia Loren -- were also MIA. However, stars like Sarah Silverman, Masa Oka, Louis Gossett, Jr., Stella Stevens, Lisa Rinna, and Harry Hamlin checked out the film, which Rob Marshall explained took "three years of my life to make."
We wonder what Penelope Cruz thought as Marshall continued by introducing Nicole Kidman as "the greatest actress working in films right now." We know what Fergie was thinking, however. Overwhelmed that her big acting break was in the company of a lauded, Oscar-winning cast, the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman admitted, "I'm definitely the singer coming into this A-List acting world, so it was intimidating for me."
Melissa Joan Hart brought her son to the event, Kevin Sorbo toted the whole family, and an oddly bald Joey Lawrence showed with his pretty wife Chandie Yawn-Nelson (who's preggies with baby number two... whhhhoa!). Debi Mazar, Carmen Electra, Stephanie Pratt, Allison Janney, Karina Smirnoff, Gilles Marini, and Samantha Harris all grabbed goodie bags filled with the Jim Henson character favorites, while t-shirt loving duo Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy scooped up a few Doc Fraggle tops that we're sure to see on the next red carpet.
Fete #3 beckoned us to Voyeur, where music movers and shakers joined concerned actors for the Summit On The Summit: Kilimanjaro Pre-Ascent event. The African climb set for January is designed to shine the light on the global clean water crisis, and it's all the idea of pop singer Kenna, who will climb along with a gaggle of activists including Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, and Isabel Lucas.
Together, they got serious on the subject while getting down to the spins of DJ Samantha Ronson, along with Jessica's main squeeze Justin Timberlake, "CSI: Miami" star Emily Procter, Pharrell Williams, Zach Braff, Shanna Moakler, James Van Der Beek, JC Chasez, and Devon Aoki.
