Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa may have lost his new BFF.
In a flip-flop day, actor Charlie Sheen first accused the mayor of lying about their recent encounter in Cabo San Lucas, a photo of which Sheen posted on his Twitter account with the caption "Antonio Villaraigosa knows how to party."
But by the end of the day, Sheen's spokesman put out a statement from the actor clarifying the meeting between the two in Mexico and apologizing "if any of my words have been misconstrued."
Villaraigosa's team, again, refused to comment on the meeting between the mayor and the Hollywood bad boy.
Villaraigosa last week said the two were together for all of three minutes while he was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas and he specifically asked Sheen not to post any picture.
Sheen told TMZ on Tuesday that he and the mayor were together for hours in Sheen's hotel suite, with a number of young women.
"I memorize 95 pages a week, so the last thing that I am is memory challenged," Sheen said. "We hung out for the better part of two hours discussing his L.A. roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his 3 a.m. lawn-watering tactics."
Sheen called Villaraigosa "a terrific guy, a great mayor and he drinks with the best of 'em. Me."
Sheen said there were a number of women in his suite, including one porn star.
But the statement released late Tuesday downplayed their meeting.
"The mayor was visiting friends in San Jose del Cabo, who were at the opening of the El Ganzo hotel and bar where my share of the ownership is 100 percent committed to the Los Cabos Children's Foundation," Sheen said in the statement.
"Mayor Villaraigosa was gracious enough to take a photo with me while we are at the same event. The mayor spoke to many other people during the opening, as well as I did. I am a giant fan of the mayor's, and apologize if any of my words have been misconstrued."
Villaraigosa last week said he poses for pictures all the time and did not think much of the one with Sheen. He said through a spokesman he would have no further comment on Sheen or what happened in Mexico.
