San Fernando Valley artist Levi Ponce will unveil his second mural in Reseda, a colossal portrait of physicist Albert Einstein on the back wall of the Magnolia Science Academy, at 10 a.m. Monday.
“Logic and Creativity” is the tallest mural Ponce has done. It is a collaborative project that aims to raise awareness in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, while presenting an inspiring role model to students.
Levi, 26, was named earlier this month one of 10 Latinos to watch in 2014 by MSN's Latinzine.
The California State University Northridge grad was instrumental in creating Pacoima's “Mural Mile,” and his artwork, in which he taps fledgling local artists, can be seen throughout many San Fernando Valley communities.
Those attending the unveiling will get a chance to see Ponce's first mural in Reseda, an homage to Michelangelo that was completed last August, on a wall of Continental Art Supplies.
Monday's unveiling of the Einstein portrait is a joint effort of Magnolia Science Academy, the Reseda Neighborhood Council and 11:11 A Creative Collective.
Magnolia offers a college-prep STEM program. The Reseda school currently serves more than 500 students primarily from lower-income families in grades 6 through 12.
Located at 18238 Sherman Way, the school was recently ranked 13th in California by the Washington Post's High School Challenge Index. The unveiling will take place in an alleyway adjacent to the school's back walMore Info on the Artist LEVI PONCE
