Trust Sarah Silverman to get all warm and cuddly when she tells jokes to raise funds to combat a life-threatening disease.

“I recently did an AIDS benefit, which was great,” Silverman told Marcia Cross, Dana Delaney, James Denton, Chris McDonald, John Maher, Tom Bergeron and Bill Bellamy at the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s “Cool Comedy – Hot Cuisine” gala. “But this one will be better because I don’t have to worry about whom I hook up with.”

Auctioneer Adam Carolla helped bring in bucks for R&D by making a threat before he and Bob Saget auctioned off items, including a visit to the set of “Desperate Housewives,” in the ballroom at the Beverly Wilshire hotel on Wednesday night.

“I’m no guru, and I’m not into karma, but it would be horrible if you had a car accident on the way home because you sat on your wallets and didn’t bid,” warned Carolla.

That, and a promise by the “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry to “personally reveal which housewife is a real nightmare,” prompted two guests to drop $18,000 each to visit Wisteria Lane.

“This is why the terrorists hate us,” concluded Carolla. “Because we get this much money for a few housewives.”
