Spywitness: Paula AbdulAbdul got on stage to help auction two tickets to the Idol finale
SPYWITNESS
By Joel Stratte-McClure Paula Abdul might have looked and sounded confused on “American Idol” last Tuesday. But on Thursday night she gave an emotional speech that struck a chord with the audience at Lupus LA’s 8th annual gala dinner. “I do very well when I speak from the heart but really tend to fall apart when I’m sitting next to a certain British man on national TV,” Abdul admitted following her presentation of the Founder’s Award to Dr. Daniel J. Wallace at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. “Simon causes me to do funny things.” Abdul also got on stage to help auction two tickets to the Idol finale. “I’ll let you sit in my seat and go backstage,” Abdul promised bidders as she raised $16,000 to prevent, treat and cure lupus. “And then I’ll come dance at your son’s bar mitzvah.” Meanwhile fans in the blogosphere have come to Paula’s defense following her Idol gaffe. “I’m gratified, overwhelmed and feel validated by the way everyone’s supporting me,” Abdul said before Dakota Fanning presented another award and Seal performed. "And none of this is very serious in the face of a debilitating disease like lupus.” ![]()
