Spywitness: 'Speed Racer' PremiereChristina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman admired a model of the thunderous Mach 5
SPYWITNESS
By Joel Stratte-McClure Don't worry about how 'Speed Racer' does at the box office. The high-octane film already set some records Saturday when it was the first-ever premiere at the Nokia Theatre and, with 4,500 adults and kids in the seats, the largest premiere ever thrown in LA by Warner Brothers. Victoria Beckham outfitted her three sons in the same bright yellow shirts for the historic event and producer Joel Silver's son wore a Speed Racer costume on the red-and-black checkered carpet. Matthew Fox left the 'Lost' set to fly into town with his family and co-star Emile 'Speed' Hirsch brought his parents. "I was a fan of the 'Speed Racer' cartoon series when I was six and got very grumpy when I missed it on TV," recalled Hirsch as co-stars Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman admired a model of the thunderous Mach 5. "Die-hard fans will think this is the greatest movie of all time." Kate Beckinsale, Emmy Rossum, Rick Shroder, Aimee Teegarden, Tim Robbins, Ginnifer Goodwin and Ed Sanders got into the racing spirit at the after party, where waiters wore Speed Racer jumpsuits, when they piloted cars on toy racetracks or watched their kids race go-karts.
