Tired of seeing photos of Hollywood actors walking the red carpet, dining at The Ivy and getting DUIs? Want some insight into how they look when they’re doing an honest day’s work?
“Actors unveil a completely different side of their personalities on the set and that persona is a big part of who they are,” said Eli Reed, the renowned Magnum Photos collaborator who’s photographed actors in action during the production of over 25 films since 1992. “I try to capture revealing moments that illustrate their passion, skills, talent, kindness, humanity and humor.
An exhibit of Reed’s work at The Perfect Exposure Gallery, which opened Thursday night and ends July 2, includes intriguing on-the-job shots of Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Tommy Lee Jones, Tyra Banks, Lawrence Fishburne, Spike Lee, Russell Crowe, Ewan McGregor and others.
“Movies encouraged me to become a photographer and explore the world,” said Reed, who’s covered conflicts in dozens of countries and now teaches photojournalism at the University of Texas.
His “Between Two Worlds: A Personal Journey” exhibit also includes 30 photographs of the Lost Boys of Sudan displaced during the 1983-2003 civil war. Proceeds from the sale of prints go to a medical clinic in .
