Spywitness: 'Bra Boys' Premiere

Many guests, perhaps angling for a role in Crowe’s movie, displayed an interest in surfing

It’s too bad that Russell Crowe didn’t keep his promise to attend the premiere of “Bra Boys” at the Directors Guild on Monday.

His Aussie buddies had planned to give the Oscar-winning actor, who narrates the documentary about the notorious surf gang Down Under, a surfboard-shaped cake at the after party. They wanted to fete Crowe’s 44th birthday, celebrate his fifth wedding anniversary and applaud his decision to adapt the “Bra Boys” story for his feature film directorial debut.

Paris Hilton, who was in Europe, also couldn’t make it. “She really wanted to be here because (writer/director) Sunny Abberton taught her to surf last summer,” lamented sister Nicky before hitting the after after-party at Hyde with boyfriend David Katzenberg.

Many guests, perhaps angling for a role in Crowe’s movie, displayed an interest in surfing.

Adrian Grenier chatted with Isabel Lucas about her paddleboard outing with Hayden Panettiere to protest the slaughter of dolphins in Japan. And Samaire Armstrong, who’s been going to the gym regularly since her stint in rehab, said she was ready to take up the sport.
