Q and A with Queen LatifahOn January 28, 2008 Being healthy doesn't mean Queen Latifah is "trading teams"
LA.COM chatted with Queen Latifah about her involvement with Jenny Craig and her weight loss and lifestyle goals. Did you contact Jenny Craig or vice versa? They called me, and I was like "Who is this?" And they said, "This is Jenny Craig on the line." I said "Who the hell ... not the Jenny Craig. I thought you all was a corporation." "Yeah, but we have a figurehead." It was really just that they were interested. They'd been watching me, watching my career, looking at things I like to do. They read a couple comments about me wanting to even have a baby at some point. They were like, "Maybe there's a way for what we do and what she does to work together for the greater good of making people healthy." And that made sense to me. Plus the food is good. That's really why. If the food was bad, I couldn't do this thing. Has a doctor ever told you that you should be concerned about your weight? No. Just my knee guy. I'm pretty healthy. I'm good, but I could be more healthy even. What else will your Jenny Craig regimen consist of? I'm going to exercise as well. I'm about to start a movie and there's always long hours on a set. Sometimes it's difficult to eat healthy, depending on where you shoot. To have access to just good-quality food even is not always possible, depending on where we're shooting. Where will you be shooting? In North Carolina. I'll get up and walk the beach. I always join the local gym anyway. I like to work out in local gyms where people look like me or are trying to do what I'm trying to do. They get over the Queen Latifah thing really quick, and they get used to seeing me after a week or two. Because you've been such a strong advocate for self-acceptance, is there any concern that people will think that your commitment to weight loss means you're no longer satisfied with the way you look? There's no concern about that. Me losing weight for myself is about me. It's not about what the public wants. It's not about an image sort of thing. It's really about how I feel about myself. The best thing I can do is be true to myself. I'm not going to keep weight on to make somebody else happy ... just like I'm not going to lose weight to make someone else happy. Don't worry, there'll be plenty left. The big girls won't feel like I'm leaving them, like I'm trading teams. It's all right. I'm just getting a little more healthy, and if people can't support me in that and be proud of me, then they're not down with me anyway. Unhealthyness come's in many forms, shapes and sizes.... You go girl!!! Posted 05/02/08 09:10AM PDT by Ebony
Thats right Queen you do this for you, to be healthy. You're a true inspiration to a lot of women who are not the size that the media tries to portray. Thank you Posted 04/25/08 12:43PM PDT by Joy
