
Maniacally channeling the entirety and intensity of Eastern European Gypsy music, Gogol Bordello transformed Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater into a thrashing whirlpool of bodies, accordions, fiddles, and drums-- Like the best punk-rock, Lord of the Flies, Bar Mitzvah you never attended.
As expected, Eugene Hütz and Co. delivered a high voltage folkfest with a circus cast of musicians who, quite literally, threw everything they had at the audience.
It was a BYOT(ambourine) event, with bouncing souls anxiously and raucously hurling themselves toward the stage with happiness and gravity as their guide. Sadly, my head and camera were on the receiving end of this collective joy, and both got smashed up in the designated photo corral.
A swift and teary ascent to the ladies room brought a chance encounter with the lovely ladies of SideOneDummy who were nice with ice, and talked me down from the ordeal.
