The paper boutique, just two doors down from its original space (now a gift division of the Embrey empire), specializes in superfine letter-pressing for Brentwood's elite. Covered in dark wood and cocoa leather, the boutique is partitioned into five departments—wedding, birth announcements, kids' parties, adult parties (not the dirty kind) and a do-it-yourself cubbyhole filled with loose paper, ribbons and Marvy pens. When soon-to-be brides enter this posh paperie, owner Kathleen Isaksen swears most immediately blurt, "I want something different." Yet despite color-filled binders like the one from Crane & Co.'s new Kate Spade paper venture, many eventually opt for traditional elegance in some shade of white.
