Across from Sony Studios on Culver Boulevard is a spacious, unpretentious gallery that neatly tells the green story. A quick glance-over purports that Livingreen is just a store that rivals the Nature Company or a Japanese furniture store. It's true—sushi dishes and copious amounts of bamboo are for sale, but upon further scrutiny, it's more like Home Depot but much fancier. Peruse paint samples and leave with organic, not-so-toxic paint. For flooring, choose between recycled hardwood, all-natural carpet or handmade tiles made with handpicked pebble stones. Our favorite: Home insulation made with recycled denim (ground-up pairs of Levi's versus that pink mush). Between antique Chinese day beds and floor lamps made of car brake rotors and clothing rods from the Gap are metal-free mattresses made of natural latex and sheep's wool (a queen-sized one could run $2,500) and non-Earth-offending cleaning supplies by Ed Begley. We think Al Gore would give this place a gold star.—Lien Ta
