Tasting menus are usually small affairs where you get tiny tastes of decadent dishes you'd never normally order, and usually you go home hungry.
Not so with Chef Jason Marcus' Tuesday night “One of Almost Everything” tasting menus at ONE Sunset. For $45 a person, you get five or six plates of the restaurant's signature dishes, with one portion for each person on each plate. That means…a lot of food.
We started out with the spicy tuna tartare over tempura eggplant, the crispy eggplant salmon with chocolate persimmons and spiced yogurt, and bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with bleu cheese.
Then we moved on to the Maine sea scallops with butternut squash and huckleberries, BBQ cheeseburger sliders with caramelized onions and mushrooms, and the lobster-shrimp-corn quesadilla with crushed avocado and tomatillo.
Finally, we got another round with the beef tenderloin in a crab béarnaise over potato pancakes, and truffled mac 'n cheese.
And we hadn't even gotten the selection of three desserts yet including red velvet cupcakes, peanut butter molten chocolate cake, and crème brulée.
There are also specialty cocktails like the Naughty Schoolgirl with vodka, lime, raspberry sugar and a lollipop.
Appetite overload? You bet, but at $45 a person, it's worth it, pack it in.
