'Pop Goes The Soft Drink'
November 14

Starting at 10:30 AM, Culinary Historians of Southern California board member Eric Boardman will moderate a discussion on the history of the soda bottle with Danny Ginsberg, the self-dubbed "soda sommelier,"and owner of Real Soda in Torrance. Real Soda is a veritable carbonated repository of over 700 hard-to-find varieties of pop, as well as home to one of the world's largest bottle cap collections. This is a chance for anyone who loves soft drinks and Americana to dork out with fellow fizzheads. For FREE! Following the hour-long discussion, there will be a reception with themed refreshments including homemade root beer.

New Pop-Up Restaurant: HatchiRoku
Until January 31

Say goodbye to food trucks. Pop-up restaurants are the new trend in Los Angeles, and launching this week is HatchiRoku in Santa Monica, for a three month, seaside stay. The temporary restaurant, whose name means "drift" in Japanese slang, is the latest concept from Chef Nori of BreadBar, and will feature a nightly three-course prix-fixe menu for $33, courtesy of a series of guest chefs. The first will be UCLA researcher and dietitian Eda Vesterman, presenting a menu based on the elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. This installment of HatchiRoku will last until January 31. Get your reservations in now or you may have to wait until the next season.
