Actor Lorenzo Lamas will sing the national anthem at this year's Love Ride, a motorcycle fundraising event held Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
Strawberry Alarm Clock will kick off the event with a concert at 7:15 a.m. A press conference featuring celebrities including Jay Leno, Robert Patrick, Antonio Sabato Jr., Willie G. Davidson, Karen Davidson, Perry King, George Barris and Mickey Jones will follow. Love Ride participants will then make their way from Glendale Harley-Davidson to Castaic Lake where George Thorogood and the Destroyers and Canned Heat will headline a concert at 11:45 a.m. Other activities include a trade show, Peter Fonda
ride-in bike show, USO displays and a food truck fair. Lamas has participated in the event since its inception and has served on Love Ride's board of directors. The event was founded in 1984 by Oliver Shokouh, the owner of Harley-Davidson of Glendale.Love Ride has raised $24 million for charity through the years."It's very exciting to be able to do something for these worthwhile charities," Lamas said. "This year, all the proceeds are going to USO, which is a very important and timely charity, especially with so many men and women serving."
The national anthem is his favorite song to sing, Lamas said."I really enjoy the song and I enjoy how people respond to it," Lamas said. Lamas' favorite Love Ride moment is when the motorcycles pull out of Harley-Davidson of Glendale."You have a couple thousand bikes all together, leaving the dealership, getting on the 5 (freeway) and riding in a pack," Lamas said. "It's just an amazing spectacle to see."
A long-time motorcycle rider, Lamas started an online motorcycle company called Lorenzo Cycles in 2009 with television producer Chad Greulach.
The company caters to the motorcycle lifestyle, specializing in custom-made motorcycles and accessories including clothing and jewelry.
