LOS ANGELES, CA (November 29, 2012) - Employees from AEG will join City Year Los Angeles on Friday, November 30th, for an AEG "Company Day of Service" as part of AEG's Season of Giving charitable campaign. City Year, a national organization that unites teams of young people for a year of service in high-need urban schools, will team up with AEG to beautify the campus of Bret Harte Preparatory Middle School South Los Angeles.
City Year will mobilize over 200 AEG employees along with City Year Los Angeles corps members to paint murals, garden and work on other beautification projects in order to create a more engaging, educational and colorful environment for more than 1,145 students.
AEG's Season of Giving is an initiative designed to raise funds and generate awareness in support of non-profit organizations working on issues of hunger, homelessness and healthcare. During the months of November and December, a different non-profit organization will be highlighted each day. Friday's service day will create a brighter, more positive school climate for Bret Harte Preparatory Middle School's community members, parents and families.
City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization founded in 1988 that partners with public schools and teachers to help keep students in school and on track to succeed. In 24 communities across the United States and through two international affiliates, this innovative public-private partnership brings together teams of young AmeriCorps members who commit to a year of full-time service in schools. Corps members provide individual support to students who need extra care and attention, focusing on attendance, behavior, and course performance through in-class tutoring, mentoring, and after school programs.
