Free day of music, arts, and dance featuring Willie Chambers of the Chambers Brothers, Duane Betts, and many more local and international performers
VENICE BEACH MUSIC FEST 8 returns to Windward Plaza Park in the heart of Venice with a free, full day of art, music, and dance on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 11 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Windward Plaza Park is located at 1 Windward Avenue, between the boardwalk and the bike trail in Venice, CA 90291. The festival features a full day of musical entertainment, a large art show surrounding the park, food trucks and lifestyle vendors, hula hoops, and more, just off the boardwalk at the end of Windward Avenue. An after show will be hosted by Danny's Venice (23 Windward Ave.) until 1 a.m. Venice Beach Music Fest is the sister festival to the Venice Spring Fling, and both festivals are dedicated to showcasing the best of Venice musicians, artists, and dancers, as well as preserving Abbot Kinney’s vision for Venice of America as a place to enjoy world class arts and entertainment at the beach!
This year’s festival headliners are Willie Chambers of the soul/psychedelic rock group The Chambers Brothers (“Time Has Come Today”), the hauntingly melodic fusion act LOONER (featuring composer Zoë Poledouris Roché and Angel Roché of Ziggy Marley), and Malibu rock band Brethren of the Coast (featuring Duane Betts, son of Allman Brothers Band’s Dickey Betts). At 11 a.m., the festivities kick off with a samba parade bySamba Da Mudança, traveling down Ocean Front Walk and leading to the festival site. A full day of music by many local and regional acts follows on the Ocean Stage: classic-rock influenced Stevie Starlight, guitar virtuoso Michael Jost, San Diego-based rock/reggae band Jet West, Venice ska/punk favorites Meet Me at the Pub, Brethren of the Coast, LOONER, and Willie Chambers. Music sets will be interspersed with dance sets from Ya Harissa Bellydance Theater and ATS (American Tribal Style) Bellydance and Drums. The after show at Danny’s Venice features Venice band The Boaters, as well as encore sets by select festival performers and surprise special guests.
A large art show surrounds the park. Artists showing include art by sky, Audrey McNamara-Garcia, Brian Mylius, Dave Wrathall, and more TBA. Food trucks on hand include Schmuck with a Truck (a New York Delicatessen on Wheels), Firehouse Chefs (firehouse fusion foods and spices), and The Paradise Truck(fresh baked cookies and fine homemade ice cream).Love Nail Tree clothing and accessories will showcase their current fashion line at the entrance booth, and Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps will distribute free samples of their products.
