Catch the next generation of orchestral musicians in a free concert Sunday, Oct. 6, at UCLA's Royce Hall. The 106-member American Youth Symphony will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, featuring cellist Allan Steele, Hector Berlioz' Symphony fantastique and the West Coast premiere of Timothy Andres' Bathtub Shrine under the direction of Alexander Treger.
Show time is 7 p.m.
Come early for the pre-concert screening of the film “Keeping Score: Symphony fantastique,” which tells the story of Berlioz' purportedly opium-fueled obsession with Irish actress Harriet Smithson that led to the creation of the piece. The screening starts at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended but not required.
Royce Hall is at 340 Royce Drive, Los Angeles. For more information, visit aysymphony.orgor call 310-470-2332.
