LOS ANGELES (Oct. 22, 2013) – ArcLight Cinemas kicks off the 50th anniversary celebration of one of the most iconic landmarks in Los Angeles, the Cinerama Dome, with classic films presented by top industry filmmakers and talent. The celebration begins today, Tuesday, Oct. 22, with a screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” preceded by a Q&A session with legendary director, Steven Spielberg.
Since its inception in 1963, the Cinerama Dome has become part of the fabric that defines the Hollywood entertainment industry, premiering more than 650 Hollywood films in 50 years. The Dome is a favorite place for directors and actors to watch their own films including iconic filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who often visits to watch reactions to his movies alongside the general public.
The 50th anniversary celebration will honor some of the most memorable films and moments that have taken place at The Dome, including a screening of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” the very first film shown at the theater on Nov. 7, 1963. To help honor the classic film and the Dome’s history are actors Mickey Rooney, Barrie Chase, Marvin Kaplan and Stan Freberg who will conduct a Q&A session on Oct. 27, 2013.
Following the kick-off celebration, additional screenings include the following:
· “How the West Was Won,” shown in the full curved-screen, 70mm Cinerama projection
· “American Beauty” featuring a Q&A with star and Golden Globe-nominee Thora Birch
· “Logan’s Run” followed by a Q&A with star and Emmy-nominee Michael York
· Oscar-winning film “JFK” featuring a Q&A session with renowned director Oliver Stone
To bring the history of the Cinerama Dome to life, commemorative paraphernalia and memoirs that honor the landmark will be featured throughout the theater including original tickets, newspapers, images, interview footage and the only known model from 1970. The Cinerama Dome will also be filled with quotes from Angelenos that reflect on the favorite memories and events that have taken place at the theater over the years. Ten 3-D fine-art prints will be on display and available for purchase with proceeds to benefit the American Film Institute and MediCinema.
