Avery founded mptv in the '80's after realizing irreplaceable photos he'd taken of celebs like James Dean and Natalie Wood on the set of Rebel Without a Cause and Marilyn Monroe on the set of Bus Stop had not been returned as magazines he shot for went defunct.   Because few photo agencies then existed and seeing that other photographers were having the same problem, he started mptv to help photographers protect and preserve their images.  Avery never took a salary while at mptv.  He simply wanted to help his contemporaries.   Today, Avery's works hang in the MOMA, the Met, and the Smithsonian, and mptv licenses among the World's most important celebrity vintage photography.
