Dave Matthews Band, one of rock’s most popular jam bands, recently announced North American tour plans for the summer with only one stop in the Southland.
The group is slated to perform at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine on Sept. 6 as part of its “A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band” tour.
The Irvine show promises two full sets by the group with a mixed performance of electric and acoustic numbers.
Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville, Va., in 1991, when Matthews decided to record a few songs he had written. The group of musicians he knew gathered for his project and eventually gelled into a band, playing a few local gigs.
In 1993 the band released “Remember Two Things” (Bama Rags), which debuted as the highest independent entry on college charts and was certified platinum in 2002.
The band’s latest studio effort, 2012’s “Away from the World” (RCA), hit No. 1 when it debuted on Billboard, garnering Dave Matthews Band the honor of the only group to have six consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1.
