INDIO >> Today is the big day, after months and weeks of planning, waiting for the lineup to be announced and the set list to be released, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is upon us.
And it wouldn't be Coachella without the heat. By the time the venue gates open at 11 a.m. temperatures are expected to reach 86 degrees and will continue to rise throughout the day, peaking at 95 degrees by the time Grouplove hits the main stage at 4 p.m.
It's a reminder for those unfamiliar with the heat to take things easy, says Ben Guitron, public information officer for Indio Police.
For those heading to the polo grounds the next three days, Guitron suggests they keep cool by damping bandanas or finding shaded areas between music acts.
“We always try to remind everybody to hydrate, easy on the sugary drinks and easy on the heavy foods,” he said. “Take is easy, you don't want to get sick and miss all the acts you paid to see.”
