When a new spa opens in town, it’s a beautiful thing. Especially when it is the latest outpost of the Chuan Spa, those luxurious oases of balance and relaxation known all over the world for their philosophies and treatments based on Chinese Traditional Medicine.
The latest Chuan Spa is found at the Langham Huntington Hotel Pasadena – you might remember the spot as the former Ritz-Carlton Pasadena – and consists of 11,000 square feet of luxurious treatment facilities, “bathing ritual” areas and Zen-like relaxation lounges. It’s exciting news for that posh hotel, so naturally they had a big, beautiful benefit bash (with a silent auction supporting ovarian cancer research) to celebrate on June 18, 2014.
And fabulous females showed up in droves (there were even a few men, too), including Bethany Joy Lenz of “One Tree Hill” fame; “Pretty Little Liars” beauty Tammin Sursok; Pussycat Dolls singers Melody Thornton and Jessica Sutta; and Malese Jow from “Star-Crossed.” They joined the Pasadena social set and other lucky attendees for a night of pampering, with treatments ranging from hand massages, make-up refreshers and eye de-puffers to cutting-edge laser demos, as technicians used the spa’s high-end product lines that include Mistral LHE, PRIORI®, Kerstin Florian, HydraFacial MD®, Deborah Lippmann and La Bella Donna.
Everyone got into the Chinese Traditional Medicine groove, too. We all filled out a five-element questionnaire designed to determine your Chuan element – wood, fire, earth, metal or water – then got advice on how to balance out all five to create a personal harmony in both body and mind.
That process happens during every visit to the spa as well, where guests will find a number of exclusive product lines and signature treatments (the Chuan Stone Therapy massage is heavenly). And the Chuan Spa isn’t just for hotel guests, either: locals are welcome to join with individual spa memberships that feature monthly special events such as beauty, health and wellness workshops, girlfriend getaways and exclusive access to product launches and previews.
As for the opening celebration, after experiencing free-flowing champagne, sampling decadent desserts and spending the evening getting pampered, one thing was certain – staying in a comfy room at the Langham Huntington Hotel Pasadena was a very good idea.
