Tucked incongruously into a tony shopping center all the way at the top of Beverly Glen Boulevard, Vibrato is a most unexpected steaks-and-jazz joint co-owned by trumpet legend Herb Alpert.

A joint effort between Alpert and the Smith brothers (owners of Pasadena's Arroyo Chop House, Smitty's and Parkway Grill), Vibrato gleams with a warm dcor of blonde woods and reds crafted for the acoustics as much as the aesthetics. (Oh, and those abstract paintings are Alpert's, too—quite the renaissance man, isn't he?) If the nightly live music isn't incentive enough for those outside the neighborhood, the steakhouse cuisine should be. The bar at the entrance attracts a varied set of chatty young women, jazz aficionados and celebs who feel like it's still a secret hideaway.
