JosieAn impressive American bistro ![]() Constantly heralded as one of the best in the city, this American bistro was opened by chef Josie LeBalch and her husband/front-of-the-house-man as a catalyst for their Pico Boulevard gentrification effort. The kitchen is manned (or should we say womanned) by three talents—LeBalch, chef de cuisine Jill Davie and pastry chef Jonna Jensen—who turn out progressive American fare with international influences. Seasonal cuisine reigns: In the fall you might find a duck confit and frisee salad, and in the summer fresh greens from the Santa Monica market tossed in a tarragon vinaigrette. Can't-miss staples include the short ribs braised Morroccan-style with curried couscous, served with dramatic flair in a colorful clay tagine. —Lesley Balla
