This new-age hideaway overlooking a Topanga Canyon creek has somehow managed to survive, despite countless brush fires in the surrounding areas.

The lush patio feels miles away from the smoggy city—partially because, well, it is. Aside from the idyllic setting, people come for the homemade bread, vegetarian and raw-food specialties, and even a few non-veggie dishes such as filet mignon from grain-fed beef. A few other items, such as the portabello mushroom appetizer and the fresh halibut, are also menu staples. From May to September, the restaurant sees a lot of weekend-wedding traffic, but one side is always open to regular diners.
