Hollywood moguls, actors, screenwriters—and wannabes in all of the above categories—have been jamming this place since 1964.

You'll see red—the dining rooms, the leatherette booths, the Chianti bottles hanging from the rafters—but it's just the right contrast to the too-sleek Hollywood scene. Some diners are just as well-aged as the decor, but Paris and Nicky could in theory also walk through the door. The maitre d' is on a first-name basis with everyone, though: Somebodies, nobodies, newbies and regulars all feel like family. Since a reservation at Dan Tana's is still one of the hardest to get in town, even family needs tips on how to get a table: Be flexible (eat late, which is when the restaurant is more fun anyway), don't insist on sitting in the front room near the bar (but it is the best side) and tip big. Got your table? The rest is easy: The menu hasn't changed since 1964. Standbys like fettuccini Alfredo, shrimp diavolo and spaghetti carbonara cover every table. Like any great neighborhood hangout, Dan Tana's is still happening well into the wee hours. —Lesley Balla
