WarszawaWhat happens when Santa Monica and pierogis mix ![]() This unexpected borscht belt-tightener resides oddly near the beach.LA is not New York or Cleveland, and Santa Monica even less so: We don't have a huge enclave of Polish immigrants. And yet, this casual Polish haven has served borscht, pierogis, sausages and schnitzel since 1979, and it's still going strong. We're fans of the dried plums wrapped in bacon, roast duck with crispy skin, and stuffed cabbage. For dessert, a vanilla crepe stuffed with lemon-scented cheese, served with raspberries, is our favorite. The patio with TV screen is available for private events, and the martinis rockit's the Polis watdka! Lesley Balla
