What Buddha statue couldn't be complemented with zillions of chandeliers, a bunch of melting candles and perhaps some shiny disco balls?

The crisp decor of Sur is a tribute both to clean whites and cheeky excess (see above re: disco balls, or just wait for the fuzzy pink menus to arrive). The recently redone space works for a first-date dinner—nice but neither too stuffy or too cheap—or a group of friends eager for ribald conversation and some house-made sangria. Scallops arrive with cherry tomatoes, crispy potatoes and red curry sauce; the Belgian salad is more successful, a mix of endive, pear, carmelized pecans, gorgonzola and honey-pear vinaigrette. Entrees include pastas, risottos, pork tenderloin in a ginger-garlic sauce, and tasty chicken enchiladas in a smoked pablo tomatillo sauce (the accompanying "avocado salad" is really just a dollop of avocado-included topping). For dessert, the blackberry cobbler makes a sweet final impression. —Lonny Pugh
