Buyer beware: All the playful opulence of Madame Chocolat's decor (we could do without the mini-Eiffel Tower, but that chandelier easily overpowers it anyway) lends itself to indulgence without restraint. On any given day, chocolatier Hasty Khoei's selection might include truffles, bon bons, chocolate-covered Cheerios, or candied lemon and orange peel dipped in—well, you know. This is the kind of place to buy a gift for someone who appreciates some cute packaging, someone who would throw a box of See's at your head. (Items are closed up in a quilted box of browns and creams, then "tied" with a magnetic ribbon.) This is also the kind of place to stop in after a business lunch before heading back into the office, for a secret stash enabling a 4pm pick-me-up. —Lonny Pugh
