At the front of the Hollywood courtyard housing Memphis, La Cantina offers burritos and margaritas to in-the-know clubbers and clueless tourists alike.

From the men behind LA.com fave nightspots Element and L'Scorpion, La Cantina is a Mexican-food-and-margaritas spot that shares a convivial, low-key vibe with its nearby brethren. (The idea is to eventually stay open until 4am to catch the post-club crowd.) Red walls and a large patio are pleasant without scorching any retinas; rock stars behind hangover shades could mix easily with fannypack-toting Midwesterners parched after snapping shots of the sidewalk outside. Standards like burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and nachos are mixed in with a couple unexpected items like ceviche and tongue stew; despite the Hollywood Boulevard location and the pedigree, pretty much everything is under ten bucks. The menu is still evolving, but on our visit we sampled the Hollywood burrito with tender shredded chicken ("healthy" because of the whole-wheat tortilla, less so when loads of cheese, sour cream and guac are scooped in), ceviche, chips and guac, and—of course—the margaritas. We have no complaints on that front. —Lonny Pugh
