Tempting even the most lactose intolerant with every milk-based product imaginable, this bakery makes ice-cream bars, ice-cream sandwiches and more in-house.

The counter staff won’t even bat an eye if customers order a sandwich, a milkshake, a brownie and a lemon bar in one go. (Not that we would know anything about that.) The treats from the freezer case truly are toe-curling, eye-rolling good, from the coffee-toffee or strawberry shortcake milkshakes to the made-to-order ice-cream sandwiches. You could also opt for a hand-dipped ice-cream bar or a cookie-dough cookie sandwich (that’s right, raw cookie dough smooshed between two baked cookies), or a slice of the buzzed-about blue velvet cake. The store also offers lunch items like sandwiches, which are also quite good, and a deli case with pre-made salads, unusual sodas and bottles of Broguiere's milk. Some items are pricey ($5 for a shake does seem a little excessive, no matter how good), but 25-cent bonbons and 75-cent cookies help MILK maintain its corner-store vibe. —Katherine Spiers
