A foodie favorite in its previous Silver Lake incarnation, Vito's has been reborn in a La Cienega Boulevard strip mall. Everyone in the place seems to know Vito by name.

There are just a few tables inside this nondescript corner spot, and even those few are cramped. A large print of Vito himself hangs next to the door; a simple glass case is filled with the day's large pies and topped with a selection of beers and wines. Next to that: the standard register and flip-top counter, over which many a delivery box crosses on its way into the night. So what's so special about Vito's Pizza? That would be the pizza. Based on the recommendation of fellow diners, we tried (and now constantly crave) the Mediterranean Veggie Pie, topped with marinated spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, garlic, herbs and dollops of ricotta atop a medley of other cheeses. (The menu helps along the ordering process thusly: "It comes in one size only, BIG!") Also available are salads, calzones and entrees like chicken parmesan with ravioli, penne pesto, baked ziti and and tortellini Alfredo. The price point is higher than the nearby Domino's; one of those BIG! Mediterranean pizzas set us back $26.50, though several of the other entrees are less than ten bucks.  —Lonny Pugh
