We keep saying we're over cupcakes already. And, really, we kind of are. But, damn, here comes Dainties Cupcakes, hidden behind a Westside strip mall.

Yes, tucked behind such culinary institutions as Winchell's and Yoshinoya (shudder) is this unscene-y delight catering to, well, anybody who knows it's there. Advance orders for parties are of course accommodated, but on our visit there were plenty of variations behind the glass for spontaneous purchasing. Filled and topped with tasty, not-too-sweet whipped cream, the cupcakes are $3 apiece; selection varies by day of the week. Tuesday brings creme de menthe and nutella, Wednesday has blood orange and honey graham, Thursday coconut and Irish cream, Friday green tea and lemon, Saturday banana and mango. Everyday offerings include raspberry, caramel (yum) and "stupid chocolate." —Lonny Pugh
