Beneath Shutters on the Beach is this family-friendly restaurant that, all else aside, would be a draw if only for its location.

Past the snug circle of valets and through the vast, classically beachy lobby of the Shutters hotel, a staircase to the far right leads down a single level and directly onto the beach. It also leads to Coast, a low-key restaurant whose tables would seem very oddly aligned if not for their strategic allegiance to the large windows, which open out to the sand. Dinnertime options include (shocker!) plenty of seafood; we suggest bypassing the subpar sampler platter, however, for the roasted beet salad to start. The flatiron steak is juicy and satisfying, as is the halibut with asparagus, and options like pork with applesauce or chicken with fries offer comfort-foody alternatives to the shrimp, salmon, halibut or swordfish. (There's something basic for everyone in the tourist-heavy crowd.) But long before all that, Coast opens at 7am for smoothies, omelets and lemon-ricotta pancakes. —Lonny Pugh
