Wendy Jacobs-Riche established herself working for renowned chefs (maybe you've heard of them?) Joaquim "Patina" Splichal and Wolfgang Puck, so she certainly had a good education about what people want in the vicinity of their belly. Also, she went to second grade. So, duh, grilled cheese! The consulting chef of Culver City's meltDOWN etc. tells LA.com the best places to buy the stinky stuff, which farmer's markets she prefers, and the one cheese that's not on her menu (but it is in the back). Campanile"I've worked in fine dining but wanted to do something for the masses. I used to do Campanile Thursday nights but it's pretty expensive and I always wondered why we couldn't do something every night of the week."
2.
Spago Beverly Hills"What Spago originally was, what Wolfgang really became famous for, was his pizza. People would fly from all over the country for WP pizza. It was that foundation of great produce, high-quality ingredients, making everything yourself instead of buying everything from jars and cans. You can come up with really fabulous food that doesn't have to be high-end. It's pizza, but it's pizza with smoked salmon and dill."
3.
Culver City Farmer's Market"I try to buy local produce and support local farmers. I go to the Culver City farmer's market on Tuesdays and shop for the restaurant, as opposed to high-end ingredients flown in from Argentina or Chile."
4.
Pizzeria Mozza"Oh yes, I had the opportunity to go after having made my reservation a month in advance even though I know the general manager very well."
6.
Angelini Osteria"I just like really good food and really good restaurants, I don't have a preference in cuisine. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants."
8.
Hatfield's"I tend to go for smaller-scale restaurants that focus on the food, not the nightclubby places. The food is the priority at this place and it really shows."
9.
Chef Eric's Culinary Classroom"I teach mostly all the baking courses. It's not necessarily for people who want to get into the business but people who really love to bake or who want to go to culinary school. I also teach recreational courses."
10.
Ford's Filling Station"I have been introduced several times to Ben [Ford, whose restaurant is just steps away] and have met Matt who owns Tender Greens. Before we opened we were going over there a lot. The owner from Fraiche came here to introduce herself. One of our employees works at BottleRock as well. People are very welcoming here. We're all kind of different so there's not a lot of competition between us."
